Every year, the Harmon sisters enjoy a getaway from their homes, husbands, and children in Mississippi, and hit the beach in Gulf Shores. This year’s “Sister Trip” is all the more needed- second-eldest sister Brenda lost her husband a few months ago.
But when a hurricane threatens to cut the trip short, Brenda refuses to leave- the storm shares a name with her late husband, and she’s taking it as a sign to stay.
As the storm rages, an unexpected visitor arrives, carefully constructed secrets begin to unravel, a $3000 dress makes an appearance, and a debate on Barbara Hershey’s filmography threatens to tear them apart.
Beached Wails was first produced by Atlanta Classical Theatre at the Woodruff Arts Center 14th Street Playhouse in February, 2002, under the direction of Sonny Goff. The cast was Leigh McClelland, Kathy Simmons, Julie Oshins, Jennifer Gaydeski, and Benjamin Scott Shelfer.
Beached Wails is Topher Payne’s most-produced play. It was most recently performed at Stage Door Players in Dunwoody, Georgia, in June, 2010, under the direction of Artistic Director Robert Egizio.
